On gasoline engines the TP sensor is a component part of the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338-
located on the throttle valve housing (engine).

For On Board Diagnostic (OBD): The TP sensor is an engine control module sensor. However, the transmission
control module also requires the TP signal. On vehicles with CAN-Bus, the automatic transmission control

module receives the TP signal from the CAN-Bus.

The On Board Diagnostic (OBD) of the automatic transmission only checks the signal, not the sensor. On
vehicles without CAN-Bus, the wire for the signal is also checked. The signal can only be read in the Measured
Value Block.

Kickdown Switch -F8-

Locations: Integrated into accelerator cable and is located on bulkhead in engine compartment. On vehicles
which do not have an accelerator cable the kickdown signal is generated in the Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -
G79- located near the accelerator pedal.

For On Board Diagnostic (OBD): On vehicles without an accelerator cable, the kickdown switch signal is
transmitted from the engine control module to the transmission control module.
