-arrows- near the oil pan.

– Install the engine/transmission connecting bolt -arrow- and

tighten it to the tightening specification. Refer to

⇒ “3.3 Tightening Specifications”, page 108

 .

– Install the engine/transmission connecting bolt -arrow- into the

right side of the flange shaft and tighten it to the tightening

specification. Refer to

⇒ “3.3 Tightening Specifications”, page 108

 . Use the con‐

nector Socket - Xzn 14 - T10061- to do so.

– Install the cover plate -A- -arrows- and tighten the bolt to 10

Nm.

– After the transmission is attached to the engine, remove the

Engine and Gearbox Jack from the transmission.

– Align the engine/transmission in its installed position. To do so

tighten the spindle on the Engine Support Bridge - 10-222A-

Caution

Risk of damaging the threads in the transmission support by

inserting bolts crooked.

♦ The transmission mount and transmission support must

be parallel to each other in order to prevent the transmis‐

sion support thread from becoming damaged.

Note

Install the engine/transmission mount free of tension. Refer to ⇒ 

Rep. Gr.  10 ; Engine, Removing and Installing .

– Install new bolts -arrows- for left subframe bracket and tighten

to tightening specification. Refer to

⇒ “3.3 Tightening Specifications”, page 108

 .

WARNING

Only remove Engine Support Bridge - 10-222A- when the left

and right subframe mount bolts are tightened to the tightening

specification.

– Install the upper bolts for attaching the engine to the trans‐

mission and tighten them to the tightening specification. Refer

to 

⇒ “3.3 Tightening Specifications”, page 108

 .

– Install the pendulum support. Refer to ⇒  Suspension, Wheels,

Steering; Rep. Gr.  40 ; Subframe; Overview - Subframe .

– Use new bolts.
– Attach the drive axles to the transmission. Refer to ⇒  Sus‐

pension, Wheels, Steering; Rep. Gr.  40 ; Drive Axles, Re‐

moving and Installing .

Overview and Servicing; Drive Axle Heat Shield .

– Assemble the exhaust system and then attach the exhause

Exhaust System .

– Install the bolt -3- and if necessary the nut -2- and install the

Starter, Removing and Installing .

– Connect the connector -1- to the Back-Up Lamp Switch - F4- .

– Install the clutch slave cylinder and tighten the bolts -arrows-

to the tightening specification -item 9- 

⇒ Item 9 (page 44)

 .

– Press line between clutch master and slave cylinder -A- into

bracket -B-, if present, on transmission.

– Attach the ground cable to the upper bolt on the starter.

– Transmission on vehicles with Start/Stop System: connect the

connector -arrow- to the Transmission Neutral Position Sensor

- G701- .

tighten the bolts -arrows- to the tightening specification

– Install the gearshift lever -B-. Refer to

⇒ Fig. ““Installing the transmission shift lever”“ , page 69

 and

tighten the nut -arrow 2- to the tightening specification

Note

Lubricate the bearing areas and sliding surfaces when instal‐

ling.

Allocate the grease for gearshift mechanism. Refer to the

Parts Catalog.

– Install the relay lever -A- and the cable retainer. Refer to

⇒ “1.11 Plastic Relay Lever”, page 78

 .

– Coat the pin on the gearshift lever with a small amount of

grease -A-.

Allocate the grease for gearshift mechanism. Refer to the Parts

Catalog.
– Attach the shift cable to the gearshift lever -arrow 1- and install

a new locking washer.

– Adjust the gearshift mechanism. Refer to

⇒ “1.10 Selector Mechanism, Adjusting”, page 76

 .

– Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to

⇒ “5 Transmission Fluid, Checking”, page 111

 .

If the transmission touched any other components, then repair

any damaged surfaces. Refer to Paint Repair Manual.
– Install the plenum chamber cover. Refer to ⇒  Body Exterior;

Rep. Gr.  50 ; Plenum Chamber Cover; Plenum Chamber
