5. To install, drive NEW seal into sleeve onto stop, when doing this DO NOT cant seal. See Fig. 21 . Fill 

space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease (G052 128 A1). Insert flange shaft.

6. Install flange shaft with cone head bolt, and tighten to specification. See TORQUE 

SPECIFICATIONS . Install drive axle shafts to transmission flange. Top off transmission oil. See 
LUBRICATION . Install sound insulation trays.  

Removal & Installation (Right Flange Seal) 

1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove center and right noise insulation trays, under engine/transmission, if 

equipped. Turn steering to right onto full lock stop.

2. Remove drive axle shaft protective cover from engine, if equipped. Disconnect drive axle shaft (1), from 

transmission flange shaft. See Fig. 22 . Place container under transmission and engine.

3. Disconnect oil return line for turbocharger from engine, if equipped (arrow). See Fig. 22 . Remove flange 

shaft securing bolts by screwing two bolts into flange, and counterhold flange shaft using a lever.

CAUTION: DO NOT damage sleeve, otherwise leaks will occur. 

NOTE:

There are two different ways to pull seal from flange. Removing seal and 
sleeve as two pieces, is covered in this step. To remove seal and sleeve as 
one piece, go to next step.

Remove flange shaft with spring. Using a screwdriver (A), pry seal and support screwdriver on assembly 
tool (3253/2). See Fig. 23 . Replace sleeve, if damaged. See SLEEVE

5.  

Install puller hook (VW 771/37), directly behind pad in sleeve. See Fig. 24 . Use force to press puller 
hook (VW 771/37) in sleeve during driving out sequence. 

NOTE:

Inner diameter of sleeve has a pad.
