AXLE SEALS

Removal & Installation (Left Flange Seal)

1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove center and left noise insulation trays, under engine/transmission, if

equipped.

2. Remove left drive axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS article.

3. Remove flange shaft securing bolts, by installing two bolts into flange and counterhold flange shaft using

a lever.

4.

Place container under vehicle. Remove flange shaft with spring. Using puller (VW 771 and VW 771/37),
pull out seal for flange shaft. See Fig. 20 . Replace sleeve, if damaged. See SLEEVE

When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment.
SIR system-related components are located in various locations
throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do
not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary,
deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See appropriate AIR
BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

NOTE:

This procedure is performed with transmission installed.

CAUTION: DO NOT damage sleeve, otherwise leaks will occur.
