Slide wedge between gear selector lever and selector cover plate. See Fig. 10 . Ensure there is no play. In 
this position, secure gear selector cable and actuating arm/gate selector cable. Check position of wedge. 
Remove gear lever jig (3422). Install balance weight, gear shift knob and boot.  

7.  

Operate clutch. Select all gears several times. Pay particular attention to operation of reverse gear lock. 
Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection, selector shaft play (lift) should be checked. 

8. Engage 1st gear. Press gear lever to left, onto stop and release. With aid from a second technician, 

observe selector shaft in gear box. When moving gear lever, selector shaft must move approximately 1 

NOTE:

Wedge must not lift gear lever. 

NOTE:

Gear shift lever must rest in 3rd/4th gear gate with transmission in Neutral.

9. If not, disengage 1st gear and again loosen nut (A) for actuating arm/gate selector cable mounting. (gate 

selector cable has a certain amount of play at mounting, due to transfer elements). Take up gate selector 
cable play, by lightly pressing mounting toward bulkhead (direction of arrow). See Fig. 12 . Tighten nut 
(A), in this position.

Selector Mechanism (Vehicles Built From June 1999) 

1. Secure locking mechanism on gear selector cable, and gate selector cable, by pulling forward until stop 

(arrow 1) and then turning to left to lock (arrow 2). See Fig. 14 

NOTE:

To ensure correct gear selector adjustment, moving parts of selector 
mechanism and transmission elements must be in proper condition. Selector 
mechanism must move freely. See Fig. 13 . Transmission, clutch and clutch 
mechanism must also be in proper condition. Transmission is in Neutral 
position.
