1. Obtain radio code for vehicles with coded radio.  

2. Switch ignition off and disconnect battery ground strap.  

3. Remove battery.  

4. Remove air cleaner.

5. Install support bar 10-222 A with legs 10-222 A/8 and support engine/transmission in position. See Fig. 

26 .  

6. Remove bracket for power steering pressure hose.  

7. Remove pendulum support (arrows). See Fig. 27 

NOTE:

For additional information, see REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - A/T (01M) article.

CAUTION: DO NOT remove bolts for transmission carrier (arrows) until 

transmission has been supported.

8. Lower transmission approx. 60 mm (2.4 in.). See dimension a in Fig. 28

9. Disconnect black connector from sensor.  

10. Remove bolt and take sensor -1- out. See Fig. 28 .  

11. Replace seal.  

12. Installation is performed in the reverse order. Use NEW pendulum support bolts. 

13. Tighten bolt to 10 Nm (7 ft lb).  

Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- 

NOTE:

For additional torque specifications, see TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS in 
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - A/T (01M) article.

The control module (arrow) is located in the plenum chamber, center right.

Removing & Installing 

1. Switch off ignition.  

2. Slide plenum chamber center cover -1- forward out of its locking device and take off of dash panel -

arrow-. See Fig. 8 .  

3. Remove screws -1- (Qty. 3). See Fig. 9 .  

4. Lift left-hand plenum chamber cover -1- in the center of the instrument panel -arrow A-, this action 

unclips the panel (front and rear edges are clipped). See Fig. 10 .  

5. Pull cover -1- toward center of instrument panel and out of retainers in A-pillar -arrow B-. See Fig. 10 .  

6. Lift right-hand plenum chamber cover -1- in the center of the instrument panel -arrow A-, this action 

unclips the panel (front and rear edges are clipped). See Fig. 29 .
