1. Remove lower control arm. See LOWER CONTROL ARM .  

2. Using hydraulic press and appropriate bushing press tools, press bushing from control arm. See Fig. 13 . 

See SPECIAL TOOLS .

Note proper installation position for bushing in control arm. See Fig. 14 . Press NEW bushing using 
appropriate press tools into control arm. See Fig. 13 .

CAUTION: Never use grease as a lubricant for bushings.

STRUT ASSEMBLY 

Removal (Except New Beetle) 

1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel.  

2. For vehicles with brake wear pad indicator, disconnect connector (1). See Fig. 15 .

3. Remove heat shield (1) by pushing lip (A) with a screwdriver in, and push at the same time the heat 

shield (1) upward in direction of arrow. See Fig. 16 . For vehicles with brake wear pad indicator remove 
bolt (B) to remove support for brake wear pad indicator.

4. If equipped with modified stabilizer bar mounting, remove upper link nut. Unclip brake line clamp and 

release brake line. Unclip wheel speed sensor harness from strut. See Fig. 17 .
