OXYGEN SENSOR ADAPTATION

Checking Oxygen Sensor Adaptation is part of Readiness Code procedures. See READINESS CODE
Oxygen sensors are self adapting.

SUMMARY

If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present and a no-start condition exists, proceed to appropriate
BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.

NOTE:

If warning light flashes continuously, key adapting procedure is faulty and
must be performed again. Only 30 seconds of ignition on time is given to
adapt all keys, 30 seconds start from the time immobilizer warning light
goes out when first key is adapted. Warning light flashes quickly and a
DTC is stored if 30 seconds are exceeded when adapting all ignition keys.
During time period that ignition is turned off, time does not register.

NOTE:

Identity of ECM is read into the immobilizer control module next time
ignition is switched on.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION

Diagnostic information is identified by model and engine code. See ENGINE CODES (2001-03) table. Use
DTC IDENTIFICATION table to identify possible cause. To further understand DTC diagnosis and/or
diagnose intermittent failures, see DTC DESCRIPTION under appropriate DTC.

NOTE:

Read and record DTCs before starting diagnostic work, (some testing
procedures will set DTCs).

NOTE:

Manufacturer recommends use of Scan Tool VAG 1551/1552 or VAS 5051/5052.
Generic scan tool may not be able to perform all test functions. If engine does
not start (this test requires using Scan Tool VAG 1551/1552 or VAS 5051/5052).
Connect scan tool. Operate starter for approximately 6 seconds, do not switch
ignition off. Turn on scan tool printer. Operate scan tool, according to scan tool
