Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing

Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Seal Installer - Selector Shaft Oil Seal - T10174-
Removing
– Remove the Multifunction Transmission Range Switch -

F125- . Refer to

⇒ “3.1  Multifunction Transmission Range Switch F125 , Re‐

moving”, page 20

 .

– Remove the selector shaft seal carefully using a screwdriver

or the Puller - Crankshaft/Power Steering Seal - T20143- . Do

not to damage the selector shaft when doing this.

Installing
– Coat the outer edge of the oil seal and the sealing lips with

ATF.

• Installed position: open side of the seal faces the transmission

housing.

– Install the new seal all the way using the Seal Installer - Se‐

lector Shaft Oil Seal - T10174- . Do not tilt the seal when

installing it.

– Install the Multifunction Transmission Range Switch - F125- .

– Adjust the Multifunction Transmission Range Switch - F125- .

Transmission Fluid Pan, Removing and

Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Shop Crane - Drip Tray - VAS6208-
♦ Torque Wrench 1783 - 2-10Nm - VAG1783-
Removing
– Remove the noise insulation. Refer to ⇒  Body Exterior; Rep.

Gr.  50 ; Noise Insulation .

– Place the Drip Tray or Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit

- SMN372500- under the transmission.

– Remove the ATF check plug -A-.
– Remove the overflow pipe -C- and drain any remaining ATF.

– Loosen the bolts on the ATF pan -arrows- diagonally.

Note

Some residual ATF will remain in the oil pan.

– Remove the ATF pan and gasket.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal while. Note the following:
– Clean the two magnets in the oil pan depressions. Make sure

the magnets touch the oil pan completely.

– Check the seal for damage and make sure all of the spacers

(quantity: 8) are present.

Otherwise, replace the seal.
– Insert the oil pan with the seal, when doing this be sure not to

pinch any lines.

– Make sure the oil pan seal is seated correctly.

– Install the overflow pipe -C- to the tightening specification. Re‐

fer to 

⇒ “4.1.1 Tightening Specifications”, page 132

 .

– Replace the gasket -B- for the ATF check plug -A-.
– Only install the ATF check plug -A- with a new gasket -B- hand-

tight.

– Fill with ATF and check the level. Refer to

⇒ “11 ATF Level, Checking and Filling”, page 112

 .
