gine Support Bridge - 10-222A- spindle, do not lift.

The left driveshaft must be removed later in the procedure.
– With the vehicle still standing on its wheels, loosen the left front

collar bolt -arrow- a maximum 90°, otherwise the wheel bear‐

ing will get damaged. Refer to ⇒  Suspension, Wheels, Steer‐

ing; Rep. Gr.  40 ; Drive Axles, Removing and Installing .

– Raise the vehicle and remove the front wheels.
– Remove the noise insulation. Refer to ⇒  Body Exterior; Rep.

Gr.  50 ; Noise Insulation .

– Remove the left front housing liner. Refer to ⇒  Body Exterior;

Rep. Gr.  66 ; Wheel Housing Liner; Front Wheel Housing Lin‐

er, Removing and Installing .

Caution

Risk of damaging the decoupling element.

♦ Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°.
♦ Do not load the decoupling element.
♦ Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.

– Remove the front exhaust pipe from the engine and lay on the

– Remove the bolts -arrows- for the cover plate -1- from the

transmission housing, and remove the cover plate.

Note

When doing so carefully rotate the engine further!

Vehicles with power steering
– Remove the brackets and the power steering lines from the

transmission.

Continuation for all vehicles

– Remove the pendulum support: First bolt -A- then bolts -B-.

Note

When installing, first tighten bolts -B-, and then the bolts -A-. Refer

to ⇒  Suspension, Wheels, Steering; Rep. Gr.  40 ; Subframe;

Overview - Subframe for the tightening specifications.

– Remove the control arms from the wheel bearing housing on

both sides -arrows-.

– Remove the left drive axle. Refer to ⇒  Suspension, Wheels,

– Lift the right driveshaft as far as possible and then tie it up.

– Remove the transmission mount bolts -2- to the transmission

bracket -A- and remove the transmission bracket bolts -1- to

the transmission.

– Remove the transmission bracket -A-. To do this slightly lower

the engine with the transmission using the Engine Support

Bridge - 10-222A- spindle.

Four turns are sufficient.

– Remove the connecting bolt -8- from between the engine and

the transmission.

– Leave the connecting bolt -5- for safety.

mission with the Engine and Gearbox Jack - VAS6931- , the

Transmission Support - 3282- and the Transmission Support

- Mounting Plate 36 - 3282/36- .

– Secure the transmission to the Transmission Support - 3282-

using the nut -1- on the double bolt.

– Remove the last connecting bolt.
– Press the transmission off of the engine, at the same time

press the torque converter off of the engine drive plate.

– Guide the transmission past the power steering line, if instal‐

led, and past the subframe when lowering it. Adjust the Trans‐

mission Support - 3282- slightly, if necessary.

Note

The connector on the transmission must not be damaged

when removing and installing the transmission. Replace the

wiring harness in the transmission if the connector gets dam‐

aged. Refer to 

⇒ “4.1 Overview - Valve Body”, page 128

 .

Pay attention to the torque converter. It must be removed to‐

gether with the transmission. Secure the torque converter

with, for example a wire -A- to prevent it from falling out.

Bear in mind that when installing a new transmission, the cable

bracket and the selector lever cable bracket for example must

be replaced.

Transmission, Removing, Jetta MY

2011, 2.0L 85 kW

– Before removing, print out the diagnostic protocol for this ve‐

hicle »if possible«. Affix the protocol on to transmission before

sending back the removed transmission in the usual way.
