lector shaft -2- and turn the Multifunction Transmission Range

Switch - F125- -1- until the Adjustment Gauge engages in the

tab on the Multifunction Transmission Range Switch - F125-

connector.

Note

If the tab on the connector does not lock into the groove in the

Gauge - Multi Function Switch - T10173- , then the transmission

is no longer in “N”. In this case, shift the transmission into “N”

using the Gauge - Multi Function Switch - T10173- .

– Secure the Gauge - Multi Function Switch - T10173- to the

selector shaft -2- with the bolt -3-.

– Tighten the bolts -arrows- to 6 Nm.
– Remove the Gauge - Multi Function Switch - T10173- .
– Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal.

❑ Do not remove the han‐

dle unnecessarily. Only

the cover must be un‐

clipped for the emergen‐

cy release. Refer to

❑ Pull the button past its

pressure point before

removing the handle.

Secure the button with a

cable tie or some suita‐

ble wire. This prevents

the button from being

pushed back into knob

accidentally.

❑ If the button is pushed in

with the handle re‐

moved:

– Installing, pull out button

beyond the noticeable

press point.

Removing and Installing, through

Note

After installation, the selector lever cable must be checked for

ease of movement and adjusted.

Removing
– Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to

⇒ “4.7 Selector Lever Handle, Removing and Installing”, page

– Remove the center console. Refer to ⇒  Body Interior; Rep.

Gr.  68 ; Center Console .

– Remove the selector lever cable from the transmission. Refer

to

⇒ “4.3 Selector Lever Cable, Removing and Installing, through

02/2009”, page 28

 .

– Raise the vehicle.
To remove the selector level cable or the selector mechanism, the

heat shield under the selector mechanism must be removed as

follows:

Caution

Risk of damaging the decoupling element.

♦ Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°.
♦ Do not load the decoupling element.
♦ Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.

– Loosen the nuts on the clamping sleeve -1- and then slide it

toward the rear.

– Remove the front tunnel brace -arrows- from the underbody.
