falling when being transported.

Unsecured torque converters can slide out if the transmission is

tipped.

1.1

Torque Converter, Removing and Instal‐

ling

Removing
• Transmission is removed.
– Carefully remove the torque converter from the transmission.
Installing
– Press torque converter hub carefully through the seal until the

first stop.

– Lightly press the torque converter toward the transmission and

turn it until the opening on torque converter hub -arrow- en‐

gage in the driver on ATF pump gear and torque converter

slides inward noticeably.

The converter is installed correctly if it is easy to turn is by hand

and if it fits evenly deep in the transmission.

Caution

If the engine and transmission are connected with force when

the  torque  converter  is  installed  incorrectly,  damage  to  the

transmission and torque converter results.

Torque Converter, Checking

– Check the torque converter hub -arrow- for wear grooves.

Note

The torque converter is welded together and must be replaced as

a complete unit if it is damaged or faulty.
