1. Shift transaxle into Neutral. Secure locking mechanism on gear selector cable and gate selector cable by

pulling forward until at stop (1), and then turning to left to lock (2). See Fig. 14 .

2. Set shift selector shaft as follows: Carefully press shift selector shaft down (1). While pressing shift

selector lever shaft down, push locking pin "A" into transaxle in direction of arrow until it engages. See
Fig. 15 . Shift selector shaft is now locked in position and cannot be moved.

NOTE:

To achieve correct adjustment, shift selector lever and linkage components
must be in good condition. Shift linkage must operate smoothly without
excessive resistance. Transaxle, clutch and clutch release mechanism must be
in good condition.

3. Pull rear of shift lever cover forward off center console. See Fig. 16 . Pull cover to rear off the center

console. Set shift selector lever as follows: Guide shift selector lever in Neutral to left into gate for
1st/2nd gear. Install Guide Pin (T10027) through hole "A" and into hole "B". See Fig. 17 .

4. Turn locking mechanism on gear selector cable and gate selector cable to right (clockwise) onto stop. See

Fig. 18 . The spring presses the locking mechanism into normal position.

5. Pull locking pin "A" back to original position. See Fig. 19 . Pull guide pin out of holes "A" and "B". See

Fig. 17 . Clip cover into frame.

6. Perform functional check. Shift selector lever must rest in 3rd/4th gear gate with transaxle in Neutral.

Shift transaxle through all gears several times. Ensure Reverse gear lock operation is correct.

7. If any gear fails to engage smoothly after repeated selection of 1st, 2nd, 5th or 6th gear (if equipped),

carefully guide shift selector lever in Neutral into gate for 1st/2nd gear. Shift selector shaft must move
downward (1). See Fig. 15 . If shift mechanism is correctly adjusted, locking pin "A" can now be pushed
into transaxle, and into shift selector shaft gate. See Fig. 15 .
