7.

Operate clutch. Select all gears several times. Pay particular attention to operation of reverse gear lock.
Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection of 1st, 2nd, 5th or 6th gear, selector shaft
must move downward (arrow 1). See Fig. 13 . If shift mechanism is correctly adjusted, locking pin (A)
can now be pushed into transmission (direction of arrow). With aid from a second technician selector
shaft gate can be pushed into transmission. If not, repeat adjustment.

NOTE:

Gear shift lever must rest in 3rd/4th gear gate with transmission in Neutral.

BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS

ECM

If connector is disconnected from ECM or the battery is disconnected, all adaptation values in control module
are erased. DTC memory content will remain intact however. If engine is started after this, a rough, uneven idle
can result. In this case, engine must be allowed to run at idle for a few minutes or a longer road test must be
performed until adaptation procedure has been completed.

CAUTION: Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Before disconnecting negative

battery terminal, obtain anti-theft radio security code. Disconnect negative
battery terminal. After reconnecting battery, re-code and check operation
of anti-theft radio.

NOTE:

Vehicles with On Board Diagnostics (OBD) II must have readiness code for

disconnected. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE
PERFORMANCE.

CAUTION: Radio/cassette or radio/CD player is equipped with an anti-theft protection
