EVALUATION TEST-ID 09: SPECIFIED VALUE SPECIFICATION

If specified value is not obtained:

z

Check Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor -G62-, see ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE
(ECT) SENSOR, CHECKING

z

Check coolant regulator:

See COOLING SYSTEM COMPONENTS (ENGINE SIDE)

z

Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM), see DIAGNOSTIC MODE 4: RESET/ERASE
DIAGNOSTIC DATA
 .

z

Generate readiness code, see READINESS CODE, GENERATING .

Diagnostic mode 7: Check test results of components that are continuously monitored

Function

This diagnostic mode indicates all stored DTCs of components and systems which are continuously monitored.

Requirement

z

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory, see DIAGNOSTIC MODE 3: CHECK DTC
MEMORY
 .

Work procedure

z

Connect diagnostic tester, see CONNECT DIAGNOSTIC TESTER .

z

Start engine and let run at idle.

Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor -G62-

Specified value:

min.

max.

z

Coolant temperature

80.3 °C

115 °C

NOTE:

Only if engine does not start:

z

Operate starter for approx. 6 seconds. Do not switch ignition off afterward.

2003 Volkswagen New Beetle GLS

1998-2004 ENGINE PERFORMANCE On-Board Diagnostic (OBD), 1.8L Generic Scan Tool - New Beetle

z

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 7: Check test results of components that are
continuously monitored".

The number of stored malfunctions or "0 malfunctions detected" is displayed.

z

End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

z

Repair stored malfunctions according to DTC table:

z

SAE P0xxx-DTCs, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) TABLES: .

z

SAE P1xxx-DTCs, see SAE P1XXX-DTCS .

Erase DTC memory after repairing malfunction, see DIAGNOSTIC MODE 4:
RESET/ERASE DIAGNOSTIC DATA .

NOTE:

z

The Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-
and Leak detection pump (LDP) -V144- seal the tank system.

z

Pressure (max. 70 mbar) can be applied to the fuel system via the test
connection (in engine compartment, right) and via engine leak detection
spray (e.g.: G 001 800 A1) leaks can be detected.
