SUMMARY
If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present and a no-start condition exists, proceed to appropriate
BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. If no DTCs are present and a driveability condition exists,
proceed to appropriate TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH
IDLE, ENGINE STALLS, etc.).
CONNECTING VAG TEST BOX
BEETLE
Turn ignition off. Move center dash panel forward and up. See Fig. 6 . Remove center dash panel. Remove
screw for left front dash cover. Lift cover at right side and pull to right to remove. Connect test equipment. See
Fig. 9 .
NOTE:
If warning light flashes continuously, key adapting procedure is faulty and
must be performed again. Only 30 seconds of ignition on time is given to
adapt all keys, 30 seconds start from the time immobilizer warning light
goes out when first key is adapted. Warning light flashes quickly and a
DTC is stored if 30 seconds are exceeded when adapting all ignition keys.
During time period that ignition is turned off, time does not register.
NOTE:
Identity of ECM is read into the immobilizer control module next time
ignition is switched on.
