– Always replace self-locking bolts and nuts.
– Make sure the alignment sleeves for centering the engine/

transmission are installed inside the cylinder block. Install

them if necessary.

If the alignment sleeves are missing, it will be difficult to shift, there

will be clutch problems and the transmission may make noises

(loose rattling).
– Make sure the intermediate plate fits correctly on the engine.
– Clean the driveshaft splines and grease lightly with Grease For

Clutch Disc Shaft Splines - G 000 100- .

It must be possible to slide the clutch plate back and forth on the

input shaft.
The Transmission Support - 3282- is aligned with the Transmis‐

sion Support - Mounting Plate 31 - 3282/31- in order to install the

“0AF” transmission.
– Insert the Transmission Support - 3282- into the Engine and

Gearbox Jack - VAS6931- .

– Place the Transmission Support - Mounting Plate 31 -

3282/31- on the Transmission Support - 3282- (the mounting

plate only fits in one position).

– Align the Transmission Support arms so that they align with

the holes in the Mounting Plate .

– Install the Support Elements -A- as illustrated on the Adjust‐

ment Plate .
The -arrow symbol B- on the adjusting plate points in the di‐

rection of travel.

– Place the transmission on the Engine and Gearbox Jack .

– Align the Adjustment Plate so that it is parallel to the trans‐

mission.

– Place the Engine/Transmission Jack under the vehicle so that

the arrow symbol on the adjusting plate points in direction of

travel.

– Adjust the transmission using the spindles on the Transmis‐

sion Support - 3282- so that the differential points downward.

– The area of the 5th gear cover should face downward.
– Then carefully raise transmission and guide along the sub‐

frame.

Note

Pay attention to all of the lines when installing the transmission.

– Carefully push the engine forward with a second technician.

and past the subframe -arrow 1-.

– Rotate the transmission upward -arrow 1- as shown in area of

5th gear cover and toward subframe.

– Install the transmission and then install and tighten the engine/

transmission connecting bolt -arrow-. Refer to

⇒ “2.3 Tightening Specifications”, page 94

 .

– Install the engine/transmission bolt -A- in area of right flange

shaft and tighten to torque. Refer to

⇒ “2.3 Tightening Specifications”, page 94

 .

– After the transmission is attached to the engine, remove the

Engine and Gearbox Jack from the transmission.

shaft -A- -arrows- and tighten the bolt to 10 Nm.

– Install the cover plate -arrows- and tighten it to the tightening

specification. Refer to

⇒ “2.3 Tightening Specifications”, page 94

 .

– Attach the transmission support to the transmission using new

bolts -arrows-. Refer to

⇒ “2.3 Tightening Specifications”, page 94

 .

– Align the engine/transmission in its installed position. To do so

tighten the spindles on the Engine Support Bridge - 10-222A-

Caution

Risk of damaging the threads in the transmission support by

inserting bolts crooked.

♦ The transmission mount and transmission support must

be parallel to each other in order to prevent the transmis‐

sion support thread from becoming damaged.

Note

Install the engine/transmission mount free of tension. Refer to ⇒ 

Rep. Gr.  10 ; Engine, Removing and Installing .

WARNING

Only remove Engine Support Bridge - 10-222A- when the left

and right subframe mount bolts are tightened to the tightening

specification.

– Install the left and right foam pieces on the upper edge of the

fender. Refer to ⇒  Body Exterior; Rep. Gr.  50 ; Fender .

– Insert upper engine/transmission connecting bolts and tighten

to tightening specification

 .

– Install pendulum support with new bolts -A, B and C arrows-.

frame; Overview - Subframe .

– Assemble the exhaust system and install the exhaust system

– Attach the drive axles to the transmission. Refer to ⇒  Sus‐

pension, Wheels, Steering; Rep. Gr.  40 ; Drive Axles, Re‐

moving and Installing .

– If equipped install the drive shaft heat shield on the engine

40 ; Drive Axles, Overview and Servicing; Drive Axle Heat

Shield .

– Install the bolt -3- and if necessary the nut -2- and install the

Starter, Removing and Installing .

– Connect the connector -1- to the Back-Up Lamp Switch - F4- .
