Support Bridge - Engine Support Feet - 10-222A/8- in front of

the hood gas struts.

– Preload the engine/transmission subassembly slightly using

the spindle.

– Raise the vehicle.
– Remove the noise insulation. Refer to ⇒  Body Exterior; Rep.

Gr.  50 ; Noise Insulation .

– Remove the lower part of the left front wheel housing liner.

– Disconnect the connector -1- from the Back-Up Lamp Switch

- F4- .

– If a nut -2- is installed, it must be removed now.
– Remove the starter (bolt -3-). Refer to ⇒  Electrical Equipment;

Rep. Gr.  27 ; Starter; Starter, Removing and Installing .

– If equipped, remove the driveshaft heat shield from the engine

-arrows-.

– Separate the exhaust system -arrows 1- and remove the ex‐

haust pipe bracket from the subframe -arrows 2-. Refer to ⇒ 

Rep. Gr.  26 ; Exhaust System .

– Remove the driveshafts from the flange shafts and tie them up

as high as possible. Be careful not to damage the surface pro‐

tection.

– Remove engine/transmission connecting bolt -A- near the

right flange shaft.

– Check whether a cover plate -A- is installed above the right

flange shaft.

– If equipped, remove the cover plate -A- -arrows-.

– Remove the pendulum support -arrows A, B and C-.

the transmission mounting.

– Carefully move the engine/transmission subassembly into an

angled position. To do so lower the engine/transmission as‐

sembly using the Engine Support Bridge - 10-222A- left spin‐

dle.

Note

Pay attention to all of the lines when lowering the transmission.

– Remove the transmission support from the transmission

-arrows-.

The Transmission Support - 3282- is aligned with the Transmis‐

sion Support - Mounting Plate 31 - 3282/31- in order to remove

the “0AF” transmission.
– Insert the Transmission Support - 3282- into the Engine and

Gearbox Jack - VAS6931- .

– Align the arms of the Transmission Support so that they match

up with the holes in the Adjustment Plate .

– Install the Support Elements -A- as illustrated on the Adjust‐

ment Plate .

– Position the Engine and Transmission Jack under the vehicle.

The arrow symbol -B- on the Adjusting Plate points in the di‐

rection of travel.

– Align the Adjusting Plate so that it is parallel to the transmis‐

sion and secure the safety support to the transmission.

– Remove the engine/transmission connecting bolt -arrow-.

the area around the oil pan.

Note

The bolts remain attached to the engine if the exhaust system is

in front of the bolts -arrows-.

– If the vehicle has a steel metal oil pan, then remove the cover

plate -arrows-.

– Remove the transmission from the alignment sleeves.
– Be careful of the intermediate plate on the engine.
– Carefully push the engine forward with a second technician.

– Rotate the transmission downward in the area of the differen‐

tial -arrow 1- and slightly at the front end.

– If engine/transmission connecting bolts -arrows 2- cannot be

removed, ensure they do not come in contact with the exhaust

system.

– Then carefully guide transmission with right flange shaft, as

shown, onto flywheel/intermediate plate -arrow 2-.

– Lower transmission while being careful of subframe

-arrow 1-.

– Use spindles on the Transmission Support - 3282- to adjust

the position of the transmission while lowering it.

Note

Pay attention to all of the lines when lowering the transmission.
