Removing and installing rear window

1.10.1

Removing undamaged rear window

– Remove rear lid trim ⇒  General body repairs, interior; Rep.

Gr.  70 ; Trim, insulation .

– Remove window frame trim ⇒  General body repairs, interior;

Rep. Gr.  70 ; Trim, insulation .

Window wash/wipe system .

1. Flush bonded windows

– Pull cutting cord -1- through adhesive sealing material at lower

radius of rear window and into inside of vehicle using awl -

V.A.G 1474/2- from removal kit for flush bonded windows -

V.A.G 1474 A- .

– Lay cutting cord -1- around rear window and pull second end

of cord inwards into interior.

– Secure one end of cord to pull handle -V.A.G 1351/1- -2- to

counterhold.

– Secure other end of cord to reel device -1-.
– Reposition reel device -1- as necessary and cut window free.
– Use plastic wedge to press cutting cord against window glass

while cutting in order to have clearance at window flange.

Removing broken rear window

– Protect body and interior from glass splinters.
– Remove pieces of glass up to adhesive sealing material.
– Remove rear lid trim ⇒  General body repairs, interior; Rep.

Gr.  70 ; Trim, insulation .

– Remove window frame trim ⇒  General body repairs, interior;

Rep. Gr.  70 ; Trim, insulation .

Window wash/wipe system .

– Disconnect connections for heated rear window.

– Cut through adhesive sealing material (with remains of win‐

dow) in window aperture using electric cutter -V.A.G 1561 A-

and blade -V.A.G 1561/10- (with stop roller).

WARNING

Always wear safety goggles and leather gloves.

Note

The removal and installation sequence is only for the right side

window. The removal and installation of the left side window is

similar.

– Remove C and D-pillar trim: ⇒  General body repairs, interior;

Rep. Gr.  70 ; Trims, insulation; Pillars and side trims .

– Depending on equipment, disconnect connector from impe‐

dance converter -1-.

Vehicles with side window trim

– Carefully insert wedge -T10039/1- in direction of -arrow- under

trim strip -1-.

– Remove trim strip -1-.
All vehicles

– Pull cutting cord -1- through adhesive sealing material at point

marked on illustration and into inside of vehicle using awl -

V.A.G 1474/2- from removal kit for flush bonded windows -

V.A.G 1474 A- .
