Setting the vehicle speed
Press the “ON-OFF” button to

Accelerate or decelerate, with

Cruise control “SET” indicator and

The vehicle speed at the moment

Adjusting the set speed
To change the set speed, operate the lever until the desired set speed
is obtained.

Increases the speed

Decreases the speed
Fine adjustment: Momentarily
move the lever in the desired
direction.
Large adjustment: Hold the lever
in the desired direction.
The set speed will be increased or
decreased as follows:
Fine adjustment: By approximately 1 km/h (0.6 mph)*1 or 1 mph (1.6 km/h)*2
each time the lever is operated
Large adjustment: The set speed can be increased or decreased continu-
ally until the lever is released.
*1: When the set speed is shown in “km/h”
*2: When the set speed is shown in “MPH”

Canceling and resuming the constant speed control
Pulling the lever toward you
1
cancels the constant speed
control.
The speed setting is also canceled
when the brake pedal is
depressed.
Pushing the lever up resumes
2
the constant speed control.
However, resuming is available when the vehicle speed is more than
approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).

Cruise control can be set when
The shift lever is in D.
Vehicle speed is above approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed
The vehicle can be accelerated by operating accelerator pedal. After accel-
erating, the set speed resumes.
Even without canceling the cruise control, the set speed can be increased
by first accelerating the vehicle to the desired speed and then pushing the
lever down to set the new speed.
Automatic cruise control cancelation
Cruise control is automatically canceled in any of the following situations.
Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 16 km/h (10 mph) below
the set speed.
At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 40km/h (25 mph).
VSC is activated.
TRC is activated for a period of time.
When the VSC or TRC system is turned off by pressing the VSC off switch.
Speed limiter is activated. (if equipped)
If “Check Cruise Control System Visit Your Dealer” is displayed on the
multi-information display
Press the “ON-OFF” button once to deactivate the system, and then press
the button again to reactivate the system.
If the cruise control speed cannot be set or if the cruise control cancels imme-
diately after being activated, there may be a malfunction in the cruise control
system. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

WARNING
To avoid operating the cruise control by mistake
Switch the cruise control off using the “ON-OFF” button when not in use.
Situations unsuitable for cruise control
Do not use cruise control in any of the following situations.
Doing so may result in loss of control and could cause an accident resulting
in death or serious injury.
In heavy traffic
On roads with sharp bends
On winding roads
On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
On steep downhills
Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.
When your vehicle is towing a trailer or during emergency towing

Driving mode select
In response to driving conditions, one of 3 drive modes can be
selected.
Select the drive mode
Changing the driving mode
To select the drive mode, perform operations on the multi-information
display.

Press “” or “” of the meter control switches and select

Mode”.

Driving modes
● “NORMAL” mode
Provides an optimal balance of fuel economy, quietness, and
dynamic performance. Suitable for city driving.
● “SPORT” mode
Controls the hybrid system to provide quick, smooth and quick
acceleration. This mode also changes the steering feel, making it
suitable for when agile driving response is desired, such as when
driving on roads with many curves.
When sport mode is selected, the “SPORT” indicator will illuminate
on the multi-information display.

● “ECO” mode
Helps the driver accelerate in an eco-friendly manner and
improve fuel economy through moderate throttle characteristics
and by controlling the operation of the air conditioning system
(heating/cooling).
When Eco mode is selected, the “ECO MODE” indicator will illumi-
nate on the multi-information display.
While the air conditioning is being used, the system automatically
switches to air conditioning eco mode (P. 484), allowing for driving
that leads to even better fuel economy.
When canceling “ECO” mode/ “SPORT” mode
Select the drive mode again. Also, “SPORT” mode will be canceled auto-
matically when the power switch is turned off.
However, “NORMAL” mode and “ECO” mode will not be canceled automati-
cally until another drive mode is selected, even if the power switch is turned

off.

Speed limiter
Summary of functions
A desired maximum speed can be set using the cruise control switch.
The speed limiter prevents vehicle speed from exceeding the set
speed.

Setting the vehicle speed
Press the switch to activate the

speed limiter.
Press the switch once more to
deactivate the speed limiter.
Accelerate or decelerate to the

desired speed and push the
lever down to set the desired
maximum speed.
If the lever is pushed down while

the vehicle is stopped is below
30 km/h (20 mph), the set speed
will be 30 km/h (20 mph).

Adjusting the speed setting

Hold the lever until the desired
speed setting is obtained.
Fine adjustment of the set speed
can be made by lightly pushing the
lever up or down and releasing it.
Canceling and resuming the speed limiter

Cancel
Pull the lever towards you to can-
cel the speed limiter.

Resume
To resume use of the speed limiter,
push the lever up.

Exceeding the set speed
In the following situations, the vehicle speed exceeds the set speed and dis-
play characters will be highlighted:
When fully depressing the accelerator
pedal
When driving down a hill (a buzzer also
sounds)
Automatic speed limiter cancellation
The set speed is automatically canceled in any of the situations:
Cruise control is activated.
When the VSC system and/or TRC system is turned off by pressing the
VSC off switch.

If the “Check Speed Limiter System.” is displayed on the multi-informa-
tion display
Stop in a safe place, turn the power switch off and back on again, and then
set the speed limiter. If the speed limiter cannot be set, the system may be
malfunctioning. Even though the vehicle can be driven normally, have the
vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.

WARNING
To avoid operating the speed limiter by mistake
Keep the speed limiter switch off when not in use.
Situations unsuitable for speed limiter
Do not use the speed limiter in either of the following situations.
Doing so may result in control of the vehicle being lost and could cause a
serious or fatal accident.
On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
On steep hills
When towing a trailer or emergency towing
NOTICE
When a warning is issued using the meter display and buzzer after exceed-
ing the set speed limit on a steep decline, depress the brake pedal to decel-
erate.

BSM (Blind Spot Monitor)
Summary of the Blind Spot Monitor
The Blind Spot Monitor is a system that has 2 functions;
● The BSM (Blind Spot Monitor) function
Assists the driver in making the decision when changing lanes
● The RCTA (Rear Crossing Traffic Alert) function
Assists the driver when backing up
These functions use same sensors.

Outside rear view mirror indicators

BSM function:
When a vehicle is detected in a blind spot of the outside rear view mirrors
or approaching rapidly from behind into a blind spot, the outside rear view
mirror indicator on the detected side will illuminate. If the turn signal lever
is operated toward the detected side, the outside rear view mirror indicator
will flash.
RCTA function:
When a vehicle approaching from the right or left at the rear of the vehicle
is detected, both outside rear view mirror indicators flash.

Multi-information display
Turning the BSM function/RCTA function on/off. (P. 336)
The RCTA function is available when the BSM function is on.
RCTA buzzer (RCTA function only)

If a vehicle approaching from the right or left at the rear of the vehicle is
detected, a buzzer will sound. The buzzer also sounds for approximately
1 second immediately after the BSM function is operated to turn the sys-
tem on.

“BSM” indicator/“RCTA” indicator
When the BSM function/RCTA function is turned on, the indicator illumi-
nates.

The outside rear view mirror indicators visibility
When under strong sunlight, the outside rear view mirror indicator may be dif-
ficult to see.
Hearing the RCTA buzzer
The RCTA buzzer may be difficult to hear over loud noises, such as if the
audio system volume is high.
When “Blind Spot Monitor Unavailable.” is shown on the multi-informa-
tion display
Water, snow mud, etc., may be built up in the vicinity of the sensor area of
bumper (P. 340).
Removing the water, snow, mud, etc., from the vicinity of the sensor area
bumper should return it to normal.
Also, the sensor may not function normally when used in extremely hot or
cold weather.
When “Blind Spot Monitor System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer.” is
shown on the multi-information display

There may be a sensor malfunction or misaligned. Have the vehicle
inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or
any reliable repairer.
