Observe display in display zone 2 (3rd digit from right).

Depress clutch pedal fully and observe display in display zone 2. 

Specification: x x x x x 1 x x

Press --> button.  

z

Press buttons -0- and -6- for "End output" function and confirm input with -Q- button.  

z

Switch off ignition. 

If the display does not change: 

z

Remove driver's side footwell cover: 

See STORAGE, COVERS AND TRIMS 

z

Disconnect connector from Clutch Vacuum Vent Valve Switch -F36-.  

z

Measure resistance between switch terminals.

Specification:

Clutch not depressed: max. 1.5  

z

Clutch depressed: INFINITY ohm(no continuity)  

If the specifications are not obtained: 

z

Replace Clutch Vacuum Vent Valve Switch -F36-.  

NOTE:

Observe installation position of Clutch Vacuum Vent Valve Switch - F36- in 
bearing bracket upper assembly hole.

Check DTC Memory, if necessary, repair any malfunctions and then Erase DTC Memory, see DTC 
MEMORY OF MOTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) -J220-, CHECKING AND 
ERASING .  

z

Read readiness code, see READINESS CODE, DISPLAYING . If DTC memory has been erased or 
Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- was disconnected from battery positive, readiness code 
must be generated again, see READINESS CODE, GENERATING . 

If the specifications are obtained: 

z

Connect multimeter using auxiliary cables from VAG 1594 to measure voltage between terminal 2 and 
Ground (GND).

Switch on ignition. 

Specification: min. 11.5 V 

If the specification is not obtained: 

z

Check wiring for open circuit between connector terminal 2 and central electric using Electrical Wiring
