Press -0-, -0- and -9- buttons to select "Display group 9".

Press -Q- button to enter input.

Take a test drive and observe display using 2nd technician.

Observe value in Display zone 3 when changing 2nd gear  

z

Specification: momentarily less than 51 mg/h  

WARNING:

Secure Scan Tool to rear seat and operate from this position using a 
second technician.

NOTE:

Data transfer is slow, making it possible for delayed displays.

Press -> button.

Press -0- and -6- buttons to select Function 06: "End output".  

z

Press -Q- button to enter input.

Switch OFF ignition.  

z

Connect VAG1598/22 (or 1598/31) Test Box to ECM wiring harness.

Checking requirements

A/C function OK  

z

No malfunctions stored in DTC memory. See DTC MEMORY, CHECKING .  

z

Vehicle temperature: +15 °C (59 °F) minimum  

z

A/C system switched ON  

A/C compressor shut-off, checking 

The A/C control head signals the Engine Control Module that the A/C compressor will be switched ON via the 
A/C compressor signal. 

Using the same wiring, the A/C compressor is switched OFF by the ECM under the following circumstances: 

z

Hard acceleration from low speed  

z

Engine is running under an emergency program  

z

Engine Coolant Temperature exceeds +120 °C (248 °F)  

z

During every engine start for approx. 6 seconds.  

Checking 

z

Connect VAG1551/1552 Scan Tool. See VAG1551/1552 SCAN TOOL, CONNECTING .  

z

Start engine and let idle.  

z

Press -0- and -1- buttons to select Address word 01: "Engine electronics"  

Display will appear as shown (example only):
