Description

CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial communication line for real time applications. It is an on-vehicle mul-
tiplex communication line with high data communication speed and excellent error detection ability. Modern
vehicle is equipped with many electronic control unit, and each control unit shares information and links with
other control units during operation (not independent). In CAN communication, control units are connected
with 2 communication lines (CAN-H, CAN-L) allowing a high rate of information transmission with less wiring.
Each control unit transmits/receives data but selectively reads required data only.

PERFORM SELF DIAGNOSTIC

1.

Turn ignition switch ON and wait for 2 second or more.

2.

Check “Self Diagnostic Result”.

Is “CAN COMM CIRCUIT” displayed?

YES

communication signal continuously for 2 sec-
onds or more.

Any item (or items) of the following listed below is 
malfunctioning in CAN communication system.
• Transmission
• Receiving (ECM)
• Receiving (BCM)

1.

PERFORM SELF DIAGNOSIS

1.

Turn the ignition switch ON.

2.

Select “Self Diagnostic Result” of “IPDM E/R”. Erase “SELF-DIAG RESULT”.

3.

Turn ignition switch OFF, and wait for 1 second or more. 

4.

Turn the ignition switch ON. Check “SELF-DIAG RESULT” again.

Is “IGN RLY ON” displayed?

YES

>> Replace IPDM E/R.

NO

>> Refer to 

GI-39, "Intermittent Incident"
