5. Turn locking mechanism on gear selector cable and gate selector cable to right onto stop (direction of 

arrow). See Fig. 11 . Spring presses locking mechanism into normal position.

6. Pull locking pin (A) back to original position (direction of arrow). See Fig. 12 . Pull pin (T10027) out of 

holes (A and B). See Fig. 10 . Clip cover to frame.

Operate clutch. Select all gears several times. Pay particular attention to operation of reverse gear lock. 
Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection of 1st, 2nd, 5th or 6th gear, selector shaft 
must move downward (arrow 1). See Fig. 13 . If shift mechanism is correctly adjusted, locking pin (A) 
can now be pushed into transmission (direction of arrow). With aid from a second technician selector 
shaft gate can be pushed into transmission. If not, repeat adjustment. 

NOTE:

Gear shift lever must rest in 3rd/4th gear gate with transmission in Neutral.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 

AXLE SEALS 

WARNING:

Vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. 
When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. 
SIR system-related components are located in various locations 
throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do 
not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, 
deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See appropriate AIR 
BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. 

NOTE:

This procedure is performed with transmission installed.
