Test requirement 

z

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory. See DIAGNOSTIC MODE 3: CHECK DTC 
MEMORY
 .  

Work procedure 

z

Connect diagnostic tester. See CONNECT DIAGNOSTIC TESTER .  

z

Perform a road test until a coolant temperature of 80 to 100° C has been reached. See DIAGNOSTIC 
MODE 1: CHECK MEASURED VALUES
 .  

Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests. See SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . 

z

Switch ignition off.  

z

Start engine at a coolant temperature of 80 to 90° C and let it run at idle.  

z

Perform a road test anew.  

The following operating conditions must be met during this road test: 

z

Accelerate vehicle uniformly, not at Wide Open Throttle (WOT).  

z

Drive for 10 minutes in the highest gear or in the highest driving mode on a level driving surface at a 
constant speed in the range of 65 to 80 km/h at an engine speed of 2000 to 2500 RPM.  

z

Let engine run at idle.  

z

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not 
continuously monitored".  

z

Select the "Test-ID 09: Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor".  

z

Check specified values at idle.

Check Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor -G62-. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE 
(ECT) SENSOR, CHECKING

Check thermostat: See applicable repair manual.  

Diagnostic mode 7: Check test results of components that are continuously monitored 

Function 

This diagnostic mode indicates all stored DTCs of components and systems which are continuously monitored. 

Requirement 

z

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory. See DIAGNOSTIC MODE 3: CHECK DTC 
MEMORY
 .  

Work procedure 

z

Connect diagnostic tester. See CONNECT DIAGNOSTIC TESTER .  

z

Start engine and let run at idle.  

z

Operate starter for approx. 6 seconds. Do not switch ignition off afterward.  

z

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 7: Check test results of components that are 
continuously monitored".  

The number of stored malfunctions or "0 malfunctions detected" is displayed. 

z

End diagnosis and switch ignition off.  

z

Repair stored malfunctions according to DTC table:  

z

SAE P0xxx-DTCs. See SAE P0xxx-DTCs .  

z

SAE P1xxx-DTCs. See SAE P1XXX-DTCS .  

z

SAE P2xxx-DTCs. See SAE P2XXX-DTCS .  

z

SAE P3xxx-DTCs. See SAE P3XXX-DTCS .

The DTC table is sorted by SAE codes.

"E-Gas"-relevant malfunctions are also indicated by the warning lamp for 
Electronic Power Control ("EPC warning lamp") in the instrument cluster.

Diagnostic mode 8: Tank leak test 

Function 

This diagnostic mode checks the fuel system for leaks. 

Test requirements 

z

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory. See DIAGNOSTIC MODE 3: CHECK DTC 
MEMORY
 .  

z

Coolant temperature must be 80 to 110° C. See DIAGNOSTIC MODE 1: CHECK MEASURED 
VALUES
 .  

z

Intake air temperature must not be above the maximum of 60° C. See DIAGNOSTIC MODE 1: 
CHECK MEASURED VALUES
 .  

Function test 

z

Connect diagnostic tester. See CONNECT DIAGNOSTIC TESTER .  

z

Start engine and let run at idle for at least 15 minutes.  

z

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 8: Tank leak test".  

z

Select measuring value "Test -ID 01: Tank leak test".  

z

Check specified value of tank leak test at idle.  

EVALUATION TEST-ID 01: TANK LEAK TEST 

z

Erase DTC memory after repairing malfunction. See DIAGNOSTIC MODE 4: 
RESET/ERASE DIAGNOSTIC DATA .  

NOTE:

z

The Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80- 
and Leak Detection Pump (LDP) -V144- seal the tank system.  

z

Pressure (max. 70 mbar) can be applied to the fuel system via the test 
connection (in engine compartment, right) and via engine leak detection 
spray (e.g.: G 001 800 A1) leaks can be detected.

During tank leak test, Engine Control Module (ECM) limits "test function

In this diagnostic mode, vehicle specific diagnostic data such as e.g. the control module versions will be 
displayed.

Connect diagnostic tester. See CONNECT DIAGNOSTIC TESTER .

Switch ignition on.

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 9: vehicle information".

Select desired vehicle information "Test-ID XX".
