on the bracket.

– Remove the bolts -2 and 5- and -arrows-.
– Free up the wires and hoses on the left air duct pipe using the

Pry Lever - 80-200- .

– Loosen the hose clamp -3- and remove the left air guide pipe.

– Remove the coolant hoses. Loosen the clamps -1- to do this.

– Disconnect the connector -1- for the Camshaft Position Sen‐

sor - G40- from out of the bracket.

– Remove the bolts -arrows-.
– Loosen the bolt on the coolant pipe behind the oil filter a few

turns. Use the Swivel Socket - Xzn 8 - T10445- .

valve. Leave it in its component location.

– Remove the bolts -arrows-.
– Free up the coolant hose -3-.
– Loosen the hose clamp -2-.
– Disconnect the connector -1- from the Charge Air Pressure

Sensor - G31- / Intake Air Temperature Sensor - G42- and

remove the right air duct pipe.

Gr.  27 ; Generator; Generator, Removing and Installing .

– Remove the bolt -1-.
– Remove the clip -2- using Pry Lever - 80-200- .
– Pull the oil dipstick tube upward out of the cylinder block and

move it to the side.

– Remove the coolant hoses from the connections

-A, B and D-.

– Remove the bolts -3- from the 4/2-way valve -2-.

order to remove the connection -C- from the coolant pipe.

Installing

Note

Replace the gaskets and seals.

Install in reverse order of removal while noting the following:
– First attach the 4/2-way valve with the connection -C- to the

coolant pipe and then install them in the cylinder block.

– Coat the new O-ring -1- with coolant.
– Tighten the bolts -3- to 15 Nm.

– Tighten the bolt on the coolant pipe behind the oil filter. Use

the Swivel Socket - Xzn 8 - T10445- . Tightening specification:

10 Nm.

Coolant, Draining and Filling

Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Refractometer - T10007A-
♦ Drip Tray - VAG1306-
♦ Hose Clip Pliers - VAS6362-
♦ Cooling System Charge Kit - VAS6096-
♦ Cooling System Tester - Adapter - VAG1274/8-
Draining:

DANGER!

Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant:

♦ The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is

warm.

♦ Wear protective eyewear and protective clothing to pre‐

vent eye injury and scalding.

♦ Reduce the pressure by covering the coolant reservoir cap

with a cloth and carefully opening.

Drained coolant must be stored in a clean container for dis‐

posal or reuse.

Follow all waste disposal regulations.

– Open the cap on the coolant expansion tank.
– Remove the noise insulation. Refer to ⇒  Body Exterior; Rep.

Gr.  50 ; Noise Insulation .

Note

Catch leaking coolant with the Drip Tray - VAS6208- .

– Place the Shop Crane - Drip Tray - VAS6208- under the en‐

gine.

– Remove the coolant hoses -1- on the Coolant Recirculation

Pump 2 - V178- -2-.

– Remove the coolant hose clip -arrow- downward and remove

the coolant hose from the radiator quick-release coupling.
