auxiliary lamp high intensity patterns to the centerlines.
8. Loosen the auxiliary lamp adjustment nuts and rotate the
lamps so that the high intensity patterns, left (4) and right

NOTE
In countries where travel is on the left side of the road, shift
the auxiliary lamp high intensity patterns to the left.

REPLACING BULB
ed01591
1. See Figure 8-16. Holding bulb reflector (1) in place, loosen
screw (2) from nut (8) enough to remove bezel ring (3)
from lamp housing (4).
NOTE
See Figure 8-17. Socket on back of reflector is part of bulb
assembly.
Handle bulb carefully and wear eye protection. Bulb con-
tains gas under pressure, which, if not handled carefully,

could cause serious eye injury. (00062b)
2. See Figure 8-16. Unplug connector (5) from socket on
back of bulb reflector. This socket is part of bulb assembly

4. See Figure 8-17. Hold reflector so that socket is facing
you. Grasp socket, turn counterclockwise (1) approximately
1/8 turn and remove bulb assembly from reflector. Discard
bulb assembly.
Never touch the quartz bulb. Fingerprints will etch the
glass and decrease bulb life. Grab the bulb with paper or
ed01590
a clean, dry cloth. Failure to do so could result in bulb
6
damage. (00210a)
5. Install new bulb assembly into reflector housing, being
7
careful not to touch glass bulb. Turn assembly approxim-

and separate pin and socket housings.
4. See Figure 8-20. Remove the three turn signal terminals
and leads (1) from the socket housing.
NOTE
6
See APPENDIX B AMP MULTILOCK in Touring Models Service
Manual for wire lead and terminal service procedures.
5. Cut off the wire wraps around the conduit.
NOTE
An option to cutting off the socket terminal is to attach mech-

If mechanics wire remains in conduit, crimp on new socket
terminals and attach wire to socket terminal. Pull mechanic's
wire to draw socket terminal back through mounting bracket
and conduit. Carefully remove mechanic's wire to avoid damage
to terminals.
2. One at a time, push wire lead through mounting bracket
and conduit.

HEATED SEAT
8.6
GENERAL
ed01596
Controls
See Figure 8-21. The heated seat is controlled by three-position
rocker switches on the left side of the seat. The front switch
controls the rider seat and the rear switch controls the pas-
senger pillion.
High Heat: Rock the switch at the top for high heat.
OFF: The OFF position is in the middle.
Low Heat: Rock the switch at the bottom for low heat.
See Figure 8-22. To remove and install a heated seat, see
2.12 SEAT.
Warm-Up
For safety, after the seat is turned on, 8-10 minutes of warm-

up is required before heat is noticed. With a hand, press down
on the seat to feel for heat.

temperature. The heat has to permeate a layer of foam pad-
ding. Always press down on the seat to check for heat.

TEST CONNECTOR KIT
Diagnostic Tips
ed01595
If the seat temperature does not change after 8-10 minute
warm-up period, test the seat continuity using a multimeter and
TEST CONNECTOR KIT (Part No. HD-41404-B).
NOTE
When checking current draw, use the 10 Amp maximum fused
terminal on the multimeter and switch the selector to DC Amps.
If during the tests the multimeter shows 0 Amps, check the
multimeter fuse and the terminal location of the meter leads.
Refer to flow charts that follow for troubleshooting.
Diagnostic Notes
NOTE
The reference numbers in Table 8-6 correlate with the
circled numbers in Figure 8-23.
The step numbers below correlate with the circled numbers
in the flow chart.
1. Use TEST CONNECTOR KIT (Part No. HD-41404-B) with
black socket probes and patch cords.
2. Before performing the current draw test, make sure the

seat heater has been off for at least 10 minutes, and the
seat is cool. A warm seat will give false readings.
