MAINTENANCE

Lubrication

Rear Suspension

Lubricate the suspension pivot shafts with POLARIS Premium All Sea-
son Grease at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Table
beginning on page 80 and before seasonal storage. When operating in
heavy, wet snow conditions, lubricate every 500 miles (800 km).

Lack of lubrication will adversely affect your ride and the life of the sus-
pension. For more information about suspension lubrication and adjust-
ments, see your POLARIS dealer.

MAINTENANCE

Gearcase Oil

Check and change the gearcase oil at the intervals outlined in the Peri-
odic Maintenance Table beginning on page 80.

POLARIS recommends the use of POLARIS Synthetic Chaincase Lube.
See page 133 for the part numbers of POLARIS products.

NOTICE: Mixing brands or using non-recommended lubricants could result in

excessive wear to chain, sprockets and bearings. Always use
POLARIS-recommended products for your vehicle.

Gearcase Oil Check

Maintain the oil level in the
safe operating range, between
the upper and lower marks on
the dipstick.

1. Position the vehicle on a

level surface.

2. Remove the dipstick and

wipe it dry with a clean
cloth. Reinstall the dip-
stick.

3. Remove the dipstick and

view the oil level.

4. Add the recommended oil

as needed. Do not overfill.

5. Reinstall the dipstick.

MAINTENANCE

Gearcase Oil

Gearcase Oil Change

The drain plug is located on the bottom
of the gearcase.

Tip: POLARIS does not recommend tipping

the snowmobile onto it's side for service.
Any time the snowmobile is tipped onto
it's left side, always check the oil level
and clean the foam oil breather element.
See page 92.

1. Position the vehicle on a level sur-

face.

2. Using a 3/16" Allen wrench, remove

the drain plug.

3. Drain the oil into a drain pan. Allow

the oil to drain completely.

4. Thoroughly clean the magnetic drain

plug.

Tip: The sealing surfaces on the drain plug

and the gearcase should be clean and
free of burrs, nicks or scratches.

5. Reinstall the drain plug. Torque to 6-10 ft. lbs. (8-13 Nm).

6. Remove the dipstick.

7. Add 20 oz. (591 ml) of the recommended oil. See page 95. Do not

overfill.

8. Reinstall the dipstick, making sure it is seated properly.

MAINTENANCE

Spark Plugs

A new engine can cause temporary spark plug fouling due to the preser-
vative added during the assembly process. Avoid prolonged idle speeds,
which cause plug fouling and carbonization.

NOTICE: Using non-recommended spark plugs can result in serious engine

damage. A spark plug with a heat range too high will always cause
engine damage if the engine is operated in conditions more severe
than intended for that plug. Always use the spark plugs recommended
for your snowmobile. Refer to the specifications section beginning on
page 134.

• Use recommended spark plugs with the proper gap. Refer to the spec-

ifications section beginning on page 134.

• Use only resistor-type spark plugs.

• Torque spark plugs to 18-20 ft. lbs. (24-27 Nm).

Check the spark plug firing end condition after the engine has been
warmed up and the vehicle has been driven at higher speeds. If a plug is
fouled, replace the plug with a new plug.

CAUTION! A hot exhaust system and engine can cause burns. Wear
protective gloves when removing a spark plug for inspection.
