LOCKING UNIT 

Removal 

NOTE:

The following information applies to 012 model transaxle. In the following 
information, numbers and letters in parenthesis are located in illustrations.

To replace locking unit, remove small cover plate located above large cover plate at right hand drive axle. Press 
down on large cover plate above the right-hand drive shaft. Remove locking unit. See Fig. 25 .  

Inspection 

1. Place spring (1) into housing (2) and while exerting light pressure, turn to left until the spring locates in 

the base of the housing. Insert bushing (3) onto the spring so that the bent end of the spring locates in the 
groove. See Fig. 26 .  

2. Push bushing (3) against spring and turn about one turn to left, until the lug on the bushing aligns with the 

groove in the housing (2). Press lug on bushing (3) onto stop in the groove in the housing (2). Turn 
bushing (3) to right and release. See Fig. 26 . Bushing will jump into correct position.  

Installation 

Prior to installation, ensure the lug (A) on the unit bushing is opposite the groove in the unit housing (B). See 
Fig. 27 . To install locking unit, ensure recess area (A) on locking unit faces downward toward bolt (B) below 
locking unit. See Fig. 28 .
