Rotate input shaft so that tapered roller bearings settle.

Press input shaft in direction of dial gauge.  

z

Bearing play should be min. 0.015 to max. 0.100 mm.

If the bearing clearance cannot be measured, but input shaft play is 
perceptible and the input shaft turns freely, the adjustment is acceptable.
