Disconnect connector from multi-function TR switch. See Fig. 94 .

Checking Supply Voltage 

1. Connect VAG 1598/18 test box.  

2. Switch multimeter to 20 V measuring range.  

3. Switch ignition on.  

4. Measure between terminal 7 and terminal 3 (Ground) on disconnected multi-function TR switch 

connector. See Fig. 94 . Specification: Battery voltage.  

5. Measure from terminal 7 of connector to socket 1 on 1598/18 (Ground).  

6. Measure from socket 23 (terminal 15) on 1598/18 to socket 1 on 1598/18 (Ground). Specification: 

Battery voltage.  

7. If the specifications are not obtained: Repair wiring according to wiring diagram.  

8. If the specifications are obtained: Check wiring further.  

9. Switch ignition off.  

10. Remove relay for Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Relay -J226-.  

11. Set multimeter to 200 ohms resistance measuring range.  

12. Check the wiring between the multi-pin connector on the TCM and the connector on the multi-function 

TR switch.  

13. Measure between sockets 1 and 18 on VAG 1598/18. Specification: Infinity ohms.  

14. Measure between sockets 23 and 18 on VAG 1598/18. Specification: Infinity ohms.  

15. Measure between socket 18 on VAG 1598/18 and terminal 5 on connector. See Fig. 94 . Specification: 

Less than 1.5 ohms.  

16. If the specifications are not obtained: Repair wiring using wiring diagram.  

17. If the specifications are obtained: Check wiring further.  

18. Measure between sockets 1 and 63 on VAG 1598/18. Specification: Infinity ohms.  

19. Measure between sockets 23 and 63 on VAG 1598/18. Specification: Infinity ohms.  

20. Measure between socket 63 on VAG 1598/18 and terminal 1 on connector. See Fig. 94 . Specification: 

Less than 1.5 ohms.  

21. If the specifications are not obtained: Repair wiring according to the wiring diagram.  

22. If the specifications are obtained: Check wiring further.  

23. Measure between sockets 1 and 62 on VAG 1598/18. Specification: Infinity ohms.  

24. Measure between sockets 23 and 62 on VAG 1598/18. Specification: Infinity ohms.  

25. Measure between socket 62 on VAG 1598/18 and terminal 6 on connector. See Fig. 94 . Specification: 

Less than 1.5 ohms.  

26. If the specifications are not obtained: Repair wiring using wiring diagram.  

27. If the specifications are obtained: Check wiring further.  

28. Measure between sockets 1 and 40 on VAG 1598/18. Specification: Infinity ohms.  

29. Measure between sockets 23 and 40 on VAG 1598/18. Specification: Infinity ohms.  

30. Measure between socket 40 on VAG 1598/18 and terminal 2 on connector. See Fig. 94 . Specification: 

Less than 1.5 ohms
