Throttle valve replacement/adjustment (setting idling speed)

Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -G69- replacement  

z

TP Sensor -G69- setting alteration, e.g. when adjusting Closed Throttle Position (CTP) Switch (engine)  

z

Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- replacement  

1. Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool and enter address word "02 transmission electronics" . Advance until 

"Select function XX" appears in display. See VAG 1551 SCAN TOOL, CONNECTING AND 
SELECTING FUNCTIONS . 

2. Scan tool display should be similar to illustration. See Fig. 38 . Press buttons -0- and -4- to select 

"Initiating basic setting" function 04.  

3. Scan tool display should be similar to illustration (A). See Fig. 58 . Confirm entry with -Q- button. 

NOTE:

The accelerator pedal must remain in the idling position.

4. Scan tool display should be similar to illustration (B). See Fig. 58 . Press button -0-, -0- and -0-.  

5. Confirm entry with -Q- button.  

6. Scan tool display should be similar to illustration (C). See Fig. 58 . The system is now in the basic 

setting. Depress accelerator pedal as far as kickdown and hold in this position for 3 seconds.  

7. Press button "right arrow" button. Scan tool display should be similar to illustration (D). See Fig. 58 .

1. Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool and enter address word "02 transmission electronics". Advance until 

"Select function XX" indicated on display. See VAG 1551 SCAN TOOL, CONNECTING AND 
SELECTING FUNCTIONS .  

2. Scan tool display should be similar to illustration (A). See Fig. 59 . Press buttons -0- and -8- to select 

"Read measured value block" function 08.

3. Scan tool display should be similar to illustration (B). See Fig. 59 . Confirm entry with -Q- button.  

4. Scan tool display should be similar to illustration (C). Enter display group number. See LIST OF 

SELECTABLE DISPLAY GROUP NUMBERS . Confirm entry with -Q- button.  

5. Four display fields (D) always appear in the measured value block (in physical values if necessary). See 

Fig. 59 . Decoding the individual values in display fields 1 to 4, see TEST TABLE .  

List Of Selectable Display Group Numbers 

If the specified values are reached in all the display fields, press "right arrow" button. Scan tool display should 
be similar to illustration. See Fig. 38 . 

NOTE:

If the printer is switched on, the current display is printed out.
