If EGR active: 

Specification display zone 3: 170 to 340 mg/stroke 

Specification display zone 4: 95 to 100% 

If specifications not obtained: 

z

Check mechanical EGR valve. See EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) VALVE, 
CHECKING .  

z

Check vacuum hoses. See VACUUM HOSE CONNECTIONS, DIAGRAM .  

z

Check EGR Vacuum Regulator solenoid valve as follows:  

z

Press --> button.  

z

Press 0 and 6 buttons to select Function 06: "End transfer"  

z

Press Q button to enter input.  

z

Switch ignition off.  

z

Disconnect harness connector -1- from EGR valve -2-.

Measure resistance across valve. 

Specification: 14 to 20 ohms 

If specification not obtained: 

z

Replace EGR Vacuum Regulator solenoid valve -N18-. 

If specification obtained: 

z

Switch ignition on.  

NOTE:

At room temperature, resistance lies in the lower tolerance range and in 
the upper range at operating temperature.

Measure supply voltage at valve connector terminal 1 and at engine Ground.

Specification: approx. battery voltage 

If specification not obtained: 

z

Switch ignition off.  

z

Connect Test Box VAG 1598/22 to ECM wiring harness.

Check wiring for open circuit between Test Box and harness connector using wiring diagram.
