Apply silicone sealing bead as shown to the clean sealing surface of the oil pan. (illustration shows 
position of sealant bead on cylinder block).  

z

Immediately install oil pan and lightly tighten all bolts. 

the oil pan and may block the suction pipe strainer.

NOTE:

The oil pan must be aligned flush with the cylinder block.

Tighten oil pan bolts to 15 N.m (11 ft lb).  

z

Tighten oil pan/transmission bolts to 45 N.m (33 ft lb).

Special tools and equipment

VAG 1342 Oil pressure gauge  

NOTE:

z

After installing the oil pan, allow the sealant to dry for approx. 30 
minutes before adding engine oil.  

z

Assembly is the reverse of the disassembly sequence.

Test sequence 

z

Remove oil pressure switch -F1- and screw into tester. 

NOTE:

Functional check and servicing the optical and acoustic oil pressure 
warning: 
See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM article

Screw tester into filter bracket in place of pressure switch.  

z

Connect brown tester wire to Ground.  

z

Connect VAG 1527B Voltage tester between battery Plus and oil pressure switch using jumper wires 
from VW 1594 adapter kit.  

If LED lights up: 

z

Replace oil pressure switch -F1-.  

If LED does not light up: 

z

Start engine and slowly increase engine speed.
