Rear seat belts

The rear seats are itted with two

three-point inertia reel seat belts.

The retaining of the rear seat belt

buckle by the sliding block makes

folding down or complete folding of

the seats easier.

Wherever you are seated

in the vehicle, always fas-

ten your seat belt, even for

short journeys.

After folding or moving a seat or rear

bench seat, ensure that the seat belt

is positioned and rolled up correctly.

Recommendations for child seats:

- use a suitable child seat if the pas-

senger is less than 12 years old or

shorter than one metre ifty,

- do not use the strap-guide* when a

child seat is installed.

Depending on the nature and se-

riousness of the impacts, the pre-

tensioning device may be triggered

before and independently of the air

bags.

In all cases, the air bag warning light

comes on.

Following an impact, have the seat

belts system checked, and if nec-

essary replaced, by a PEUGEOT

dealer.

* According to model.

Do not invert the seat belt buckles as

they will not fulil their role fully.

If the seats have armrests*, the lap

part of the seat belt must always

pass under the armrest.

Before and after use, ensure that the

seat belt is rolled up correctly.

In order to be effective, a seat belt:

- must be tightened as close to the

body as possible,

- must restrain one adult only,

- must not bear any trace of cuts or

fraying,

- must not be twisted,

- must not be transformed or modi-

ied.

Clean the seat belt straps with soapy

water or a textile cleaning product,

sold by PEUGEOT dealers.

AIR BAGS

The air bags have

been designed

to maximise the safety of the oc-

cupants in the event of serious col-

lisions. They work in conjunction

with the force-limiting seat belts.

The electronic detectors register and

analyse any abrupt deceleration of

the vehicle: if the triggering thresh-

old is reached, the air bags inlate

instantly and protect the occupants

of the vehicle.

Immediately after the impact, the air

bags delate rapidly so that they do

not hinder the visibility of the occu-

pants nor their exit if necessary from

the vehicle.

The air bags are not deployed in the

case of collisions which are not seri-

ous, for which the seat belt is sufi-

cient to ensure maximum protection.

The seriousness of a collision de-

pends on the nature of the obstacle

and the speed of the vehicle at the

moment of the collision.

Air bags only operate when the

ignition is switched on.

Note: the gas escaping from the air

bags can be a minor irritant.

FRONT AIR BAGS

These are folded in the centre of the

steering wheel for the driver and in

the fascia for the front passenger.

They are deployed simultaneously,

except in cases where the passenger

air bag is disarmed.

Front air bag fault

If this warning light comes

on, accompanied by an au-

dible signal and a message

on the multifunction dis-

play, contact a PEUGEOT

dealer to have the system

checked.

Disarming the passenger air

bag*

To ensure the safety of your child,

it is essential to disarm the pas-

senger air bag when you install

a "rear-facing" child seat on the

front passenger seat. Otherwise,

the child would risk being seri-

ously injured or killed if the air bag

were to inlate.

With the ignition switched off,

insert the key into the passenger

air bag disarming switch

1, turn

it to the

"OFF" position, then re-

move the key keeping the slot in

this position.

In the

"OFF" position, the passenger

air bag will not be triggered in the

event of an impact.

As soon as the child seat is removed,

turn the air bag slot to the

"ON" po-

sition to re-activate the air bag and

thus ensure the safety of your pas-

senger in the event of an impact.

With the ignition on (2nd

notch), illumination of this

warning light accompanied

by a message on the multi-

function display, indicates

that the passenger air bag is dis-

armed (switch in the

"OFF" position).

The warning light on the instrument

panel remains on until the passenger

air bag is reactivated.

In the event of permanent

lighting of the two air bag

warning lights, do not in-

stall a rear-facing child

seat. Contact a PEUGEOT

dealer.

Steering column air bag*

The steering column air bag is in-

corporated in the fascia below the

steering column.

It protects the driver's lower limbs.

It is deployed at the same time as the

front air bags.

SIDE AIR BAGS AND

CURTAIN AIR BAGS*

The side air bags are incorporated

into the front seat backs on the door

side.

The curtain air bags are incorporated

in the headlining.

They are deployed independently of

each other depending on which side

the collision occurs.

This indicator light comes

on, accompanied by an

audible signal and a mes-

sage on the multi-function

display to indicate the mal-

function of at least one of these air

bags.

Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have

the system checked.

For the front, steering

column, side and curtain

air bags to be fully

effective, observe the

• Sit in a normal upright position.

• Do not leave anything between the

occupants and the air bags (a child,

pet, object...). This could hamper

the operation of the air bags or in-

jure the occupants.

• All work on the air bag system is

strictly forbidden unless it is carried

out by qualiied personnel of the

PEUGEOT network.

• After an accident or if the vehicle

has been stolen or broken into,

have the air bag systems checked.

Front air bags

• Do not drive holding the steering

wheel by its spokes or resting your

hands on the centre part of the

wheel.

• Passengers must not place their

feet on the fascia.

• Smoke as little as possible; deploy-

ment of the air bags can cause

burns or the risk of injury from a

cigarette or pipe.

• Never remove or pierce the steer-

ing wheel or hit it violently.

Side air bags

• Only put approved covers on the

seats. Contact your PEUGEOT

dealer.

• Do not ix or glue anything to the

seat backs. This could cause injury

to the chest or arms when the side

air bag inlates.

• Do not sit with the upper part of the

body any nearer to the door than

necessary.

* According to country.

Steering column air bag*

• Do not sit with your knees any

nearer to the steering wheel than

necessary.

Curtain air bags*

• Do not ix or glue anything to the

roof. This could cause injury to the

head when the curtain air bag in-

lates.

• Do not remove the grab handles in-

stalled on the roof, they play a part

in securing the curtain air bags.

In the

"OFF" position, the passenger

air bag will not be triggered in the

event of an impact.

As soon as the child seat is removed,

turn the air bag slot to the

"ON" po-

sition to re-activate the air bag and

When the vehicle is being

driven, illumination of this

warning light and of the

STOP warning light, ac-

companied by an audible

signal and a message on the multi-

function display, indicates that the

handbrake is still on or has not been

properly released.

When parking on a slope,

direct your wheels towards

the pavement and pull the

handbrake.

"2 TRONIC" GEARBOX

The ive-speed controlled manual

gearbox offers a choice between the

comfort of automatic regulation or the

pleasure of manual gear changing.

This gearbox enables you to access

two driving modes:

- an automated mode for automatic

control of the gears by the gearbox

and therefore without any action on

the part of the driver,

- a sequential mode for manual

changing of the gears by the driver

using the paddles on the steering

wheel or the gear lever.

It consists of the following controls :

- a gear lever

1 on the centre con-

sole for changing gear in sequential

mode, reverse gear and neutral,

- an

"AUTO" button 2 on the centre

console for activation or deactiva-

tion of the automated mode,

- a

"-" steering wheel control 3 for se-

quential downward gear changes,

- a

"+" steering wheel control 4 for

sequential upward gear changes.

HANDBRAKE

Applying

Pull the handbrake to immobilise

your vehicle.

Gear lever positions

N : neutral.

Push the lever to the right to change

to neutral.

R : reverse gear.

With the vehicle stationary, keep

your foot on the brake pedal and

push the gear lever to the right then

towards the rear.

+/- : manual gear changing in se-

quential mode.

Push forward to change up.

Push rearward to change down.

Releasing

Pull on the handle and press the but-

ton to release the handbrake.

When the vehicle is being

driven, illumination of this

warning light and of the

STOP warning light, ac-

companied by an audible

signal and a message on the multi-

function display, indicates that the

handbrake is still on or has not been

properly released.

When parking on a slope,

direct your wheels towards

the pavement and pull the

handbrake.

"2 TRONIC" GEARBOX

The ive-speed controlled manual

gearbox offers a choice between the

Applying

Functions of the steering

wheel controls

Stopping - Starting on a slope

The 2 Tronic gearbox is a control-

led manual gearbox which does not

have a clutch pedal.

Do not use the accelerator pedal to

immobilise the vehicle on a slope,

apply the handbrake instead.

When starting on a slope, accelerate

gradually while releasing the hand-

brake.

Moving off

Press the brake pedal irmly while

starting the engine.

Each time the engine is started,

the

automated mode is activated and

the gearbox systematically places

itself in neutral to prevent the vehicle

from jumping.

"AUTO" and "N" appear on the in-

strument panel display.

Select irst or reverse gear.

Release the handbrake.

Release the brake pedal then ac-

celerate.

"AUTO" and "1" or "R" appear on

the instrument panel display.

It is possible to start in 2nd gear

using the gear lever, in sequential

mode only.

Switching to sequential mode

Once you have moved off, you can

switch to sequential mode by press-

ing button

"AUTO" disappears and the gears

engaged appear in succession on

the instrument panel display.

The gear change requests are only

carried out if the engine speed per-

mits it.

Take your foot off the accelerator

pedal gently to engage the gear.

Switching to automated mode

Automated mode

After using the sequential mode, you

can return to the automated mode by

pressing button

"AUTO" and the gear engaged ap-

pear on the instrument panel display.

The gearbox then operates in auto-

active mode, without any action on

the part of the driver.

It continuously selects the gear most

suited to the following parameters:

- driving style,

- road characteristics,

- vehicle load.

To optimise driving comfort and ob-

tain the most suitable gear, avoid

sharp variations in the pressure on

the accelerator pedal.

Stopping the vehicle

Before switching off the engine, you

can:

- move to position

N to leave the

gearbox in neutral.

- leave a gear engaged, such as irst

or reverse.

In both cases, it is imperative that

you apply the handbrake to immobi-

lise the vehicle.

The brake pedal must be

pressed while starting the

engine.

Never select neutral

while the vehicle is moving.

Only engage reverse gear

R with the

vehicle immobilised and the brake

pedal pressed.

In all cases, it is imperative that you

apply the handbrake in order to im-

mobilise the vehicle.

"Auto sequential" mode

In the automated mode, you can

resume control temporarily at any

time using the paddles or the gear

lever.

The gearbox engages the gear re-

quested if the engine speed permits

it.

"AUTO" is still displayed on the

instrument panel.

After a few moments, the gearbox

again controls the gears automatically.

Automated snow mode

In the automated mode, if the gear-

box detects poor grip it will auto-

matically switch to automated snow

mode.
"AUTO" and "T" appear on the in-

strument panel display.

Reinitialisation

Following disconnection of the battery,

the gearbox must be reinitialised:

- switch on the ignition,

"AUTO",

"T" and "-" appear on the instru-

ment panel display,

- press the brake pedal,

- wait approximately 30 seconds

until

"N" or a gear appears on the

instrument panel display,

- release the brake pedal.

The gearbox is operational again.

Operating anomaly

With the ignition on, the simultane-

ous lashing of the

"T" and "AUTO"

symbols indicates a gearbox mal-

function.

Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without

delay.

CRUISE CONTROL

Cruise control enables the vehicle

to maintain a steady speed pro-

grammed by the driver.

In order for it to be memorised, the

vehicle speed must be greater than

25 mph (40 km/h) and fourth gear at

least must be engaged (second gear

for the "2 Tronic" gearbox).

Memorising a speed

As soon as you reach the chosen

speed, press button

2 or 3. This

memorises the speed, which will be

maintained automatically.

Note: It is possible to accelerate and

drive momentarily at a speed greater

than the memorised speed. When

the accelerator pedal is released, the

vehicle will return to the memorised

speed.

Changing a memorised speed

To memorise a speed higher than the

previous one:
F

press button

release it when you have reached

the required speed.

To memorise a speed lower than the

previous one:
F

press button

release it when you have reached

the required speed.

Do not use the cruise con-

trol on slippery roads or in

heavy trafic.

On a steep descent, the

cruise control will not be able to pre-

vent the vehicle from exceeding the

programmed speed.

The cruise control cannot, in any

circumstances, take the place of the

observance of speed limits nor of

the vigilance or responsibility of the

driver.

To prevent jamming under the pedals:

- ensure that the mat is positioned

correctly,

- never it one mat on top of another.

Operation

Place control

1 in the ON position.

A speed can be memorised.

If you wish to cancel the memorised

REAR PARKING ASSISTANCE

This system consists of four proximity

sensors, located in the rear bumper,

and a special speaker.

This detects any obstacle (person,

vehicle, tree, gate, etc.) behind the

vehicle. Nevertheless, it cannot de-

tect obstacles located just below the

bumper.

An object, such as a stake, a road-

works cone or any other similar

object may be detected at the begin-

ning of the manoeuvre, but may no

longer be detected when the vehicle

comes close to it.

Note: in bad or wintry weather, en-

sure that the sensors are not covered

with mud, frost or snow.

Detection zone

Detection

The system is activated as soon as

reverse gear is engaged, accompa-

nied by an audible signal and lighting

of the button

A indicator light.

The proximity information is given by

an audible signal, which becomes

more rapid as the vehicle approach-

es the obstacle.

When the distance between the rear

of the vehicle and the obstacle is less

than thirty centimetres, the audible

signal becomes continuous.

On completion of the manoeuvre,

when you exit reverse gear, the sys-

tem becomes inactive.

Note: during the manoeuvre, press

button

A to deactivate the system

temporarily (child asleep in the rear...).

If there is an operating fault,

the indicator light lashes,

accompanied by an audible

signal which will be a short

bleep followed by a long bleep, when

changing to reverse gear.

Deactivation

With the ignition on, press button

for more than four seconds to de-

activate the system permanently.

The indicator light on the button is

switched off, accompanied by an

audible signal.

Note: this function must be deacti-

vated when towing a trailer or when

a bicycle carrier is itted (vehicle it-

ted with a towbar or bicycle carrier

recommended by PEUGEOT).

Reactivation

Press button

A again to reactivate

the system. The indicator light on the

button is switched on, accompanied

by an audible signal.

From outside: lift the catch A and

raise the bonnet.

Bonnet strut

Secure the strut to hold the bonnet

open.

Before closing the bonnet, replace

the strut in its housing.

To close
Lower the bonnet and release it at

the end of its travel. Check that the

bonnet is properly locked.

OPENING THE BONNET

From inside: pull the handle on the

left-hand side under the fascia.
